Guidance on wound supplies - what and how much to order
• Most stage 3 and stage 4 pressure ulcers require daily, three time weekly or QOD dressings (latter is about 4 times a week)
• Most stage 1 and 2 need either foam +/- triad
Standard orders to get you started:
• Saline for irrigation - 500-600 cc per month; 1000 cc for large ulcers that are > 8x8cm
• Woven gauze x 200 per month
• Dressing retention tape (also known as hypafix or medifix tape)
- 2-inch width x 10 yard for small -medium ulcers (less than 5x5cm)
- 4-inch width x 10 yard for large ulcers
• Skin prep box of 50
• Alginate without silver— sheets of 4x4 or 6x6 order 20 per month
• Aquacel various sizes — typically 4x4 or 6x6 — order 20 per month
• Xeroform gauze if there is exposed bone or for shallow ulcers — order 20 per month
• Triad - 1 tube of 6 ounces per month
• Foam adhesive dressing order 20 per month —various sizes but these are typical —> silicone foam 4x4, or sacral foam dressing 7x7 (goes by Mepilex foam, allevyn foam or silicone foam)
